Back to Winter Harbor
Fall just is not complete without a little get away. We decided to return to the MainStay Cottages and RV site with our hosts Pearl and Roger, stewards of this historic property. We stayed in the Captain Lindsay house, 4 bed/3 bath with a view to the RV park, but for $150/night, we were veryContinue reading “Back to Winter Harbor”

Sears Island
The day broke foggy, salty mist lingered in the air. Traipsing over slippery rocks, the tide starts to rise. The path disappears under lapping water, the adventure begins. Bending branches and crawling under fallen trees, we are not trapped but find refuge on dry ground leading to higher pastures.

Northern Maine Vacay 2020
Back in May, when things felt bleak and spring just couldn’t rear its pretty head, I realized it was time to think about getting away in August. Usually, by May, most of the optimal summer weeks are booked at popular spots. I decided to check out availability at the New England Outdoor Center – SCORE!Continue reading “Northern Maine Vacay 2020”

A new find: Monroe Island
We have lived in mid-coast Maine for 28 years now. We spend a lot of time venturing in the great outdoors. The summer opens up a seasonal playground, Penobscot Bay. Last weekend, we spontaneously decided to come ashore on Monroe Island, after beaching and picnicking on Birch Island. We were delighted to discover something new,Continue reading “A new find: Monroe Island”

Venturing out of the bubble . . .
Four months and counting. I figure if we can’t get out now, when we can be outside most of the time, then we aren’t going anywhere for a very long time. With that in mind, Tom and I decided to make a dash for Down East and Lubec, Maine – the home of West QuoddyContinue reading “Venturing out of the bubble . . .”

Early summah in the time of COVID
This is an unusual time. Usually, we are full speed ahead with the arrival of warmer weather and opportunities to be on the water, play with friends and partake in local festivals. I don’t feel the full speed ahead this year, it’s more like – ok, we can do this, the weather is bright andContinue reading “Early summah in the time of COVID”

Discovering something new at an old place
Sunday drives have taken on a whole new meaning in the time of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. This past Sunday, Tom and I made our way down the Friendship peninsula to the Olsen House. We ventured across the street onto the famous field and towards a small cemetery. As I expected, we foundContinue reading “Discovering something new at an old place”

August 3 – 10, 2019 Good thing we booked this trip when we did because Tom really needed to get away for some down time and we both enjoyed a “summer vacation.” I booked an AirBnB in Cape North, Cape Breton Island – in the “Highlands” just north of the Cabot Trail on the wayContinue reading “Cape Breton summer vacation”

Tulum vacation – take 2
When my hard working, self employed husband says it’s time to get away for some R and R, I get right on it and book the vacation! For the first time, we actually returned to a vacation spot we previously visited two years ago – 8km north of Tulum at Tankah Tres Bay. I bookedContinue reading “Tulum vacation – take 2”
